Starling

Like the bands appearing out of the Halifax picture that produced Sloan, Canadian power poppers Starling shaped in Ottawa in 1997 like a cooperation between guitarist/vocalist/songwriter Ian LeFeuvre (ex-Fun for Malakai) and drummer Peter Von Althen (ex-Skydiggers). As both improved their musicianship (and LeFeuvre his songwriting), they extended their lineup to add bassist Jon Reilly-Roe. Reilly-Roe remaining in August 1998 and was changed toward the finish of the entire year by LeFeuvre’s cousin, bassist/guitarist/vocalist Danny Michel (previously from the Rhinos), whose earlier home recording encounter proved invaluable; he previously already performed a number of the materials from his single albums (including 1997’s Prior to the Globe Was Round and 1998’s Crystal clear) in collaboration with LeFeuvre and Von Althen as his support device. Collectively, Starling also got a home-recorded recording in the can by the finish of 1998 and the effect, simply referred to as Untitled, was presented with limited discharge on indie Racecar Information. The buzz encircling Untitled ultimately helped property them an archive offer in the U.S. as time passes Bomb, a subsidiary of BMG, in nov 1999; full-time bassist Maury LaFoy was put into the lineup quickly thereafter. Their label debut, Sustainer, was released in 2000, using the monitor “Earnest” appearing over the soundtrack from the film Prepared to Rumble and business lead one “Don’t Deflate” getting featured on the tv screen series Providence.
