As a residence manufacturer for the legendary SST label, Place helmed a few of the most influential underground recordings from the 1980s, including materials from Dark Flag (1981’s landmark Damaged, 1984’s Family members Man), the Minutemen (Hype or Howl Consuming Heat and WHY IS a Man Begin Fires?, both from 1983), Hüsker Dü (1983’s Steel Circus) as well as the Meats Puppets (their initial two self-titled initiatives).
