Spoonie Gee was the nephew of veteran R&B maker Bobby Robinson and something of the initial rap performers. He was referred to as the “like rapper,” a graphic which was founded by his 1st record, “Like Rap,” released on his uncle’s Enjoy label because the turn side from the Treacherous Three’s “THE BRAND NEW Rap Language.” The majority of early rap information reproduced an MC’s party regular having a loose series of narrative, boasting, and contact and response. Spoonie’s preliminary outing, however, structured a hip-hop designed record around an enchanting theme, coming nearer to the lyrical norms of pop music. The personal “Like Rap” was followed just by drum arranged and congas, and Spoonie’s following record continued inside a likewise minimalist vein. The voice-over on 1979’s “Spoonin’ Rap” trapped to more standard old-school boasting but appears ahead to the gangsta attitude in its jailhouse referrals. “Spoonin’ Rap” was also prophetic in its usage of flexatone and greatly echoed voice, recommending the Jamaican connection which was rejected in early interviews by a number of the rap originators. In 1980, Spoonie collaborated with Series on a traditional one, “Monster Jam,” most likely the last phrase on the group of “MEMORIES”/”A DIFFERENT ONE Bites the Dirt” variations along with a classic within the Glucose Hill vein, filled with a bone-crushing bassline and ecstatic audience noises. Within the middle-’90s, the Ol’ Skool Flava label released a compilation, Godfather of HIPHOP, and over ten years from then on, Spoonie released an EP entitled The Employer Is Back.
