Spookey Ruben

Substitute singer/songwriter and experimental filmmaker Spookey Ruben makes melodic, lo-fi, brand-new wave-influenced pop music. Delivered Alan Deil in Ottawa, Ontario, Ruben spent a lot of his youngsters in Germany and various other Europe, where his dad proved helpful as an engineer for the Western european Space Company. By his teenagers, Ruben’s long locks and like of speed steel had gained him the nickname Spookey. He shaped several rock bands before searching for film college at Toronto’s York College or university. During this time period, Ruben developed a pastime in four-track documenting at his house. Ultimately, these recordings captured the interest of TVT Information, which released Ruben’s debut record, Modes of Transport, Vol. 1, in 1995. Many more albums made an appearance on TVT, like the divide single/live record Wendy McDonald – Reside in Japan (1997) and What’s a Boy to accomplish? (1999). Ruben’s following two albums, 2001’s Bed and 2002’s Breakfast time, had been repackaged as Bed and Breakfast time to get a 2006 discharge on Hi-Hat/Zomba. In 2003, Ruben released By itself on the Zoo, offering co-production from Tortoise’s John McEntire. Many EPs implemented, including 2006’s Ausfahrt Walsrode, 2009’s Mechanical Royalty, and 2010’s Shackleton. Being a filmmaker, Ruben aimed some pants for Canada’s Exclaim! network in 2008. Entitled Spookey Ruben’s Dizzy Playground, the pants featured performances from a small number of various other music artists, including Ariel Green, Feist, Melissa Auf der Maur, yet others. In 2012, Ruben came back using the full-length record Welsh Rarebits.
