The Kansas-based post-punk progressive bluegrass outfit Split Lip Rayfield was made up of vocalist/banjoist David Lawrence, guitarist/dobroist Kirk Rundstrom, and one-string bassist Jeff Eaton, whose instrument was fashioned through the gas tank of the 1965 Ford. An outgrowth of the group Scroat Stomach (though it didn’t consider long for these to outlive the music group that spawned them), the trio debuted in 1998 having a self-titled LP released within the Bloodshot label. Within the Dirt followed a yr later; by this time around, vocalist and mandolin participant Wayne Gottstine got extended the lineup to four items and Eric Mardis got changed Lawrence on banjo. The brand new millennium noticed the release of the third effort, Under no circumstances Make It House, which found its way to stores in past due 2000. After 3 years of touring, which noticed the group starting for everybody from Del McCoury to Nashville Pussy, Break up Lip Rayfield documented and released a 4th long-player, MUST HAVE Seen It Arriving, in 2004. In early 2006, Rundstrom (who got also released several solo information) was identified as having cancer. He continuing to perform using the music group for weeks as he fought and underwent treatment, but Rundstrom eventually succumbed to the condition in Feb 2007, nearly weekly after playing what will be his last display.
