The dreamy soundscapes of Speck Hill first took shape in Brooklyn, NY, where founding members Karl Briedrick (guitar) and Marie-Claire Balabanian (vocals, bass) held their first rehearsals in 2005. Causing the vocals of Mazzy Star’s Wish Sandoval as well as the lush orchestrations of space rock and roll, the music group honed its audio while using short-term member Jackie Ciliberti (body organ/electric powered piano). Ciliberti was afterwards changed by multi-instrumentalist Kate Walsh, as well as the trio relocated to Chicago. Summertime Above, Speck Mountain’s self-produced debut, premiered in 2006 by Burnt Dark brown Noises, a Chicago-based label operate by Briedrick and Balabanian. Even though the co-leaders continued to perform the label, Speck Hill soon agreed upon a cope with Carrot Top Information, which released the participating follow-up work Some Sweet Comfort in March 2009.
