Special EFX

Biography

Merging Latin and African rhythms using the light textures of MOR jazz, Special EFX surfaced among the most prominent globe fusion sets of their era. Produced in NY in 1982, Particular EFX had been essentially a duo made up of guitarist Chieli Minucci and Hungarian-born drummer/percussionist George Jinda; debuting in 1985 using the record Modern Manners, they often times recruited other music artists to greatly help flesh out their state-of-the-art audio, included in this Dave Grusin, Omar Hakim, and McCoy Tyner. Long favoring an available and slick jazz-pop audio, the duo considerably altered their identification with 1990’s EXACTLY LIKE Magic, adopting a far more acoustic structure and exchanging Jinda’s digital percussion for what he dubbed “solid wood globe music.” After 1995’s BODY GESTURES, Minucci and Jinda divide, with the last mentioned continuing to operate under the Particular EFX name. Nevertheless, in early 1997, tragedy struck when Jinda — having lately completed the record Here to remain — suffered an enormous heart stroke and lapsed right into a coma that he never retrieved. Jinda passed on in NY on January 11, 2001 at age 60. After Jinda’s transferring, Minucci (who acquired transitioned right into a effective solo musician) respectfully made a decision to continue documenting under the Particular EFX banner, sometimes showing up as Chieli Minucci & Particular EFX. He debuted the brand new moniker using the record Special Surrender (2007), which discovered him revisiting a lot of Particular EFX’s eclectic stylistic affects, from Latin to funk to fusion jazz. Then came back to his single use the atmospheric, brand-new age-infused partner albums Moves (2008) and East of sunlight (2008). This year 2010, Minucci shipped the two-disc Without You. 2 yrs later, he came back using the Genesis, which highlighted several longtime Unique EFX affiliates, including percussionist Omar Hakim, saxophonist/flute participant David Mann, and pianist Lao Tizer. In 2017 Minucci designated Unique EFX’s 35th Wedding anniversary with the launch of Deep because the Night time. Featured for the recording were guest looks from Tizer, in addition to violinist Antoine Silverman and saxophonist Elan Trotman.
