A musical cross between your southwestern melodrama of Calexico as well as the florid homegrown psychedelia from the Olivia Tremor Control and their many offshoots, Houston sextet Spain Colored Orange mix complex, carnivalesque plans with intelligent pop songwriting. The group started in 2000 as the single acoustic task of vocalist, songwriter, guitarist, and keyboardist Gilbert Alfaro. Relating to a 2005 interview in The Houston Chronicle, Alfaro required the name from an elementary-school map-coloring task, which his grandmother still experienced pinned to her wall structure when he began the band. Documenting tapes of his single material, Alfaro played out them for his close friends, a lot of whom asked to become listed on his group. By 2005, the ultimate lineup of Spain Colored Orange contains Alfaro, trumpeter Eric Jackson, keyboardist Justin Maximum, bassist Steven Burnett, and drummer Wayne Diederich. Signing towards the Chicago-based indie label Lucid Information, Spain Coloured Orange released the EP Hopelessly Not capable of Standing in the manner in 2005. The full-length Sneaky Just like a Villain, made by Dave Fridmann protégé Expenses Racine, adopted in early 2008.
