Space Needle began in 1994 because the four-track task of Long Island-based Jud Ehrbar and Jeff Gatland, longtime close friends who began executing together while going to senior high school. After graduation, Ehrbar relocated to Providence, Rhode Isle, where he went to school and performed drums in Chick Graning’s music group Scarce; after innovative variations prompted Ehrbar’s leave, he came back to Long Isle and reunited with Gatland, where in fact the duo founded Space Needle like a location for incorporating varied influences which range from experimental music and ’70s prog rock and roll to ’80s post-punk and hip-hop. After putting your signature on to the brand new York label No Hour, Space Needle debuted in 1995 with Voyager, a assortment of fuzzy, psychedelic compositions supported by primitive tape loops and experimental creation techniques. Before 1997’s ambitious The Moray Eels Eat the area Needle, guitarist Anders Parker — the auteur behind Varnaline — became a full-time member; Ehrbar also continuing along with his concurrent ambient task, Reservoir.
