Soul Trippers

Tampa garage music group the Spirit Trippers originally formed in 1964. Vocalist John DeLise, guitarists Friend Richardson and Ronnie Vaskovsky, bassist Ronnie Elliot, and drummer Spencer Hinkle previously managed beneath the name the Outsiders, documenting a 1966 rendition from the Eddie Cochran traditional “Summertime Blues” which was a big plenty of regional strike to property the group a agreement with Laurie Information subsidiary Providence, who persuaded them to improve their name towards the Spirit Trippers in order to avoid discord using the myriad additional Outsiders lineups throughout the world. Their blues-punk cover of Wayne Moore’s “I’m a Ruler Bee” adopted on Providence in July of 1966. Based on the Fuzz, Acidity & Flowers site, the record offered 20,000 copies prior to the discovery that this Spirit Trippers were actually five white men prompted many radio train station managers to draw it using their play lists. This bizarre case of invert racism hastened the band’s demise, with Richardson and Elliot reuniting in Noah’s Ark while DeLise later on resurfaced within the Rovin’ Flames.
