Biography

Led by producer/vocalist/songwriter Jazzie B., Spirit II Soul had been perhaps one of the most innovative dance/R&B clothes of the past due ’80s, developing a seductive, deep R&B that lent from Philly spirit, disco, reggae, and ’80s hip-hop. Originally offering Jazzie B., manufacturer/arranger Nellee Hooper, and instrumentalist Philip “Daddae” Harvey, the musical collective emerged jointly in the past due ’80s. The group acquired a residency on the Africa Center in London’s Covent Backyard, which resulted in a record agreement with 10, a subsidiary of Virgin. Two singles, “Fairplay” and “Experience Free,” begun to attract interest both in night clubs and in the press. Offering the vocals of Caron Wheeler, Spirit II Soul’s third one, “Continue Movin’,” reached the U.K. TOP in March of 1989. Released in the summertime of 1989, “Back again to Lifestyle” also highlighted Wheeler and became another TOP hit. Spirit II Spirit released their debut record, Membership Classics, Vol. 1, quickly afterward. The record was released in the united states under the name Continue Movin’; both “Continue Movin'” and “Get yourself a Lifestyle” became significant strikes, propelling the record to dual platinum position. Wheeler still left the group prior to the recording from the group’s second album, Vol. II: 1990 – A FRESH Decade. The record debuted at number 1 within the U.K., however it captured the group within a keeping pattern. Hooper shortly still left the collective, departing Jazzie B. to soldier on by itself. Hooper continued to utilize some of the most important and popular serves of the first ’90s, including Massive Strike (Blue Lines), Björk (Debut and Post), Madonna (Bedtime Tales), and U2 (“Keep Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Wipe out Me”). In 1992, Spirit II Spirit released Vol. III: PERFECTLY, to both lukewarm testimonials and sales. Following the compilation Vol. IV: The Common Singles, the group’s following studio record, Vol. V: Believe, made an appearance in 1995.
