Biography
Shaped in Santiago, Cuba, in 1977 by vocalist Eduardo ‘El Tiburon’ Morales (b. 1935, Cuba) and pianist/musical movie director Adalberto Alvarez, Boy 14, as their name indicate, certainly are a 14-piece music group playing ‘boy’, Cuba’s nationwide musical design. In 1978 Lazaro Rosabal (b. 1953, Santiago, Cuba) became a member of the group. They documented several albums for the neighborhood EGREM label, a lot of which became bestsellers throughout Latin America. The music group also toured thoroughly across America and European countries. In 1992 co-founder Alvarez remaining the music group to create his personal group. Undaunted, Boy 14 continuing, with Rosabal overtaking as musical movie director. In addition to continued success inside the Latin marketplace, the music group also started to gain reputation internationally, firstly using the music ‘El Boy De La Madrugada’ which presented for the Earthworks Information compilation Cuba – Completely Charged (1993), and with the launch of Boy – THE BEST Audio (1995), a compilation from the music group’s material through the Alvarez era, released by Tumi Information. Having released non-Latinos to Boy 14’s brassy contemporary version of boy and its own many variants (‘boy montuno’, ‘bolero boy’, etc.), Tumi commissioned a saving by the music group at EGREM studios in Cuba. Released in 1996 within the label’s Cuba Explosion series, Cubania proven that the music group had lost non-e of the musical flair and energy beneath the musical directorship of Rosabal. 3 years afterwards the group returned with La Maquina Music, which added Colombian design tropical rhythms with their audio. They marketed the album using a Western european tour that included an appearance on the Cuba Presente Celebration on the Barbican Center in London.
