Solvent

Solvent is Toronto post-techno manufacturer Jason Amm, who all produces melodic electronica under that name through his own Suction label, co-founded with friend and label partner Gregory DeRocher (aka Lowfish) in 1997. Traceable to several nonexclusive affects spanning the final 20-odd many years of elecronic music (early electro-pop innovators like the Regular, Liaisons Dangereuse, Visage, and Soft Cell), Amm’s music is really a fidgety, lo-fi fusion of the number of those affects coupled with strains of current post-techno much like Aphex Twin and Autechre. Solvent added three monitors to Suction’s initial 12″ prior to the label released his self-titled debut Compact disc in 1998. An assortment of warm, melodic, reassuring melodies and by transforms mellow and harsh rhythms, the Compact disc drew instant evaluations to Aphex Twin, although also apparent were the affects of Yaz and early Individual League. A divide 7″ with like-minded (otherwise like-sounding) Italian duo D’Arcangelo implemented in 1999, as do another divide with label partner Lowfish on German/United kingdom label City Center Offices. Amm also added Solvent materials to compilations on Spelunk, Lo Recordings, Vinyl fabric Marketing communications, and Serotonin, and released his second full-length, Solvently One Listens, by the end of 1999. Another decade brought many single produces, DJ mixes, collaborative initiatives, and compilation performances, in addition to full-length albums Solvent Town (2001), Apples + Synthesizers (2004), and At the mercy of Shift (2010). From 2011, Amm started focus on a documentary film about the annals of modular synthesizers as well as the lifestyle that grew around them. The resultant film, I Imagine Wires, noticed its realization in 2013, and was soundtracked totally with music have scored by Solvent on modular synthesizers.
