Softies

Borrowing their name from a British new wave group, the Softies had been created in 1994 by singer/guitarist Increased Melberg following a dissolution of her previous strap, Tiger Capture. Upon relocating from Sacramento, CA, to Portland, OR, Melberg 1st founded the trio Proceed Sailor, still a heading concern when she teamed with Fairly Encounter alum (and publisher from the fanzine Sparkly Kitty Sticker) Jen Sbragia to discovered the Softies. The indie pop duo debuted in early 1995 with “Loveseat,” an individual issued around the Slumberland label; their beautiful debut LP It’s Like followed later on in the entire year on Calvin Johnson’s K label. Following a self-titled 1996 Softies Personal Entitled 10″, the Softies came back to K in early 1997 to concern their sophomore work, Winter Pageant; at exactly the same time, both Melberg and Sbragia also teamed with Course’ Peter Green within the Three Peeps. Fall 2000 noticed the release of the third album, Visit to Rhode Island.
