After almost ten years . 5 being a mainstay from the Boston music picture, fronting indie rock and roll legends like Autoclave and Helium, Mary Timony came back to her hometown of Washington, D.C. in the mid-’00s. Close to the end from the 10 years, she shaped the music group Pow Wow with her partner Jonah Takagi and These United Areas’ Winston H. Yu. After finding that name used by at least two additional rings, the threesome transformed their name to Soft Power, after a term coined in 1990 by philosopher Joseph Nye. T.J. Lipple produced the music group a quartet in June 2009. Casting Timony as even more collaborator than frontwoman (she and Takagi pull the plug on on business lead vocals), the music group began to generate psychedelic-tinged indie rock and roll with a definite medieval tint, similar to Helium, but concurrently even more ethereal and harder edged.
