Snub Mosley could very well be most widely known for having invented the “slip saxophone,” a horn that had both a saxophone mouthpiece and a slip; his 1940 documenting “THE PERSON using the Funny Small Horn” showcases his unusual axe a little. Mostly, nevertheless, Mosley produced his living like a trombonist. He began playing in senior high school and was an integral soloist with Alphonso Trent’s highly regarded but infrequently noted territory music group from 1926-33. After departing Trent (with whom he documented), Mosley caused the Jeter-Pillars Orchestra (1934), Claude Hopkins (1934-35), Extra fat Waller, the Luis Russell Orchestra under Louis Armstrong’s path (1936-37) and his very own relatively low-profile groupings. Mosley mostly performed in the brand new York region (including a normal gig at Frolic from 1955-61) in to the past due 1970s.
