Smoky Dacus

b. William Eschol Dacus, 24 July 1911, Quinton, Oklahoma, USA, d. 9 Oct 2001, Rogers, Arkansas, USA. Dacus performed drums with dixieland rings before early 30s when Bob Wills broke with custom and made a decision to hire a drummer for his Tx Playboys music group. Dacus therefore became a significant ingredient in that which was to be the outstanding traditional western swing music group of the time. He continued to be with Wills for quite some time, appearing on several records. When additional western swing rings adopted Wills’ example and employed drummers, it had been by the requirements Dacus arranged that these were assessed. In Dec 1973, Dacus was reunited with Wills and his former bandmates for any recording session. That which was to have already been a content reunion ended up being a unfortunate affair; Wills experienced a stroke and even though he resided for greater than a 12 months he never retrieved awareness. In 1987, Dacus was inducted in to the Western Swing Culture Hall of Popularity.
