Smoke or Fire

Smoke or Open fire can be an emo-tinged post-hardcore music group that occasionally tones into rootsier materials such as Wilco or Marah. The music group originally created in Boston in 1998, when traditional western Massachusetts natives Joe McMahan (business lead vocals and acoustic guitar) and Jeremy Cochran (acoustic guitar) fulfilled New Hampshire kids Ken Gurley (bass) and Nick Maggiore (drums) as college students at Boston University or college. Originally phoning themselves Jericho, the quartet released their debut recording, When the Electric battery Dies, in 2000. Bailing from the cramped and wicked-expensive town of Boston upon graduation, the quartet resettled within the mellower confines of Richmond, VA, and started focus on their second recording. When a very long inactive Christian rock-band from Australia, also known as Jericho, complained concerning the youthful whippersnappers usurping their name, the kids politely amended it to Jericho RVA for the 2003 EP Worker’s Union. Their press package claims that at this time, the music group ran into issues with a hostile music group of traditional Christians over their fresh name, though it appears just as most likely that they identified its general lameness. Changing their name just as before to Smoke cigarettes or Open fire, the quartet authorized to system.drawing.bitmap Wreck Chords label and released 2005’s Above the town, made by label mind Body fat Mike. After considerable touring to get Above the town, Maggiore remaining the music group for family factors. He was changed by ex-From Ashes Rise drummer David Atchison before the sessions for his or her third full-length, made by Chicago indie rock and roll mainstay Matt Allison.
