Smith & Mighty

Biography

A long time before Bristol had turn into a recognized stronghold for downtempo trip-hop and spy-soundtrack dubs, the duo of Rob Smith and Ray Mighty teamed in the later ’80s for just two early breakbeat monitors, “Walk in By” and “Anyone Who Had a Heart.” The anachronistic fusion of advanced Burt Bacharach productions with laidback hip-hop prefigured trip-hop’s afterwards fascination with the greater refined end of ’60s adult-pop. The set also produced the very best Ten strike “Wishing on the Celebrity” for the new Fours, then authorized with ffrr Information (who have been buying production group with crossover capabilities similar to Spirit II Spirit). The label later on declined both Smith & Mighty’s debut recording and several following recordings — declaring these were unsuitable for launch — therefore the duo shaped their very own label, Even more Rockers. Five years after their preliminary clean with major-label shenanigans, they released Bass Can be Maternal. Smith & Mighty also done production to get more Rockers signee Marxman, and released a quantity within the DJ Kicks series in 1998. Big Globe, Small Globe followed 2 yrs later. Smith in addition has recorded using the trip-hop trio Jaz Klash.

1 It's an actor's dream to play something like this. I consider this my masterwork...Playing Nixon gave me tremendous recognition. I'd long been known in the business, but it pulled everything together. Finally people could put the name Lane Smith with my face.
