b. Locksley Wellington Hampton, 21 Apr 1932, Jeannette, Pa, USA. Born right into a musical family members, several members which performed together for some time, trombonist Hampton became a member of Pal Johnson’s R&B music group in the middle-50s. This engagement brought him to NY where he seduced attention not merely for his playing also for his organizing. After a short spell with Lionel Hampton he joined up with Maynard Ferguson’s music group, where he performed and arranged, offering exciting graphs on such well-known music as ‘The Fugue’, ‘Three Small Foxes’ and ‘Glide’s Derangement’. After departing Ferguson, Hampton led his very own eight-piece band, continuing organizing for others, and was musical movie director for vocalist Lloyd Cost. In 1968 he toured with Woody Herman, settling in European countries where he continued to be until the past due 70s. Subsequently he caused different jazz co-operatives including Continuum, trained, and led his personal nine-trombone, three-rhythm music group, Globe Of Trombones. A masterly arranger and gifted (left-handed) trombone participant, Hampton’s career has become the recognized in jazz.
