Sleeping States

Sleeping States may be the eclectic, folky single task of former Kaito member Markland Starkie. Generally embracing a sparse, meditative strategy much like his contemporaries Last Fantasy and Small Wings, and sometimes delving into skittery electro-pop and lush indie pop place, Sleeping States became a noiseless departure from Starkie’s noise-pop root base. Launching his first record as Sleeping Expresses in 2004 (Ranges ARE EXCELLENT), Starkie continued release a albums, EPs, and singles prolifically during the period of the next 3 years; recordings from that point period consist of 2005’s PER YEAR in the life span of Sleeping Expresses, a self-titled Sleeping Expresses cassette EP (also released in 2005), a divide EP with Francois (2006), and 2007’s full-length YOU CAN FIND the Open Areas, not forgetting a passel of divide singles and comp disk appearances.
