Skeeter Best

A masterful tempo guitarist, Skeeter Best was also an above average business lead participant, though he didn’t screen it frequently. He’d been affected from the duo of Charlie Religious and Freddie Green, and laid down slick, refined, and tempting riffs and assisting licks. His single strategy was a traditional single-string design, with cleanly articulated, bluesy patterns and phrases. Greatest performed in Philadelphia through the past due ’30s, then caused Earl Hines in 1941 and 1942 until he became a member of the Navy. Greatest spent his period following his release playing with little combos, and participated in the landmark Spirit Brothers session offering Ray Charles and Milt Jackson. He documented with Mercer Ellington in 1958, and later on taught in NEW YORK. Best produced no sessions like a innovator, but could be noticed to good benefit on the Spirit Brothers Compact disc reissue.
