b. Antonio Gumersindo Garay con Garcia, 12 Apr 1867, Santiago de Cuba, Cuba, d. 17 July 1968, Havana, Cuba. A talented guitarist, Garay was an early on impact on Compay Segundo who afterwards declare: ‘The initial person I noticed playing electric guitar was Sindo Garay. He found my house with a electric guitar. I liked your guitar.’ Garay’s repertoire incorporated not merely the expected impact of Spanish music but was also redolent from the music forms that came originally from France and that have been heard through the entire isle. Untrained though he was, Garay obviously possessed an severe ear and ingested all of the music that he noticed, whether played skillfully at concerts as well as the opera, or much less formally in pubs and at road corners. One of the melody forms included into Garay’s function are boleros, criollas, guarachas and bambucos. He composed many songs, included in this ‘Perla Marina’, ‘Mujer Bayamesa’, ‘Amargas Verdades’, ‘Te Equivocaste’, ‘Rays De Oro’ and ‘Lo Que Ha sido Un Beso’.
