Simon Spillett

b. 4 November 1974, Britain. Prompted by his semi-professional trombonist dad, Spillett researched music from early years as a child. His first teacher was Vic Ash through whom he started a lifelong habit of hearing carefully to various other music artists, both and on record. Through the last mentioned medium, Spillett got many early affects including John Coltrane, Johnny Griffin, Sonny Rollins and Ben Webster, even though the musician whose playing developed the biggest & most informing impression was Tubby Hayes. At age 21, Spillett became a specialist musician and through another decade built a solid popularity among peers and viewers along with his inventive and first playing. Spillett shaped a quartet, which resolved as John Critchinson (piano), Andy Cleyndert (bass), and Martin Drew (drums). Through the first and middle-00s, Spillett’s quartet, occasionally with Spike Wells changing Drew, performed to ever-growing viewers, chiefly in the united kingdom. In 2007 he earned the BBC Jazz Prize as Rising Superstar. Furthermore to his playing, Spillett also creates knowledgably on jazz, specifically United kingdom saxophonists, and his function has made an appearance in Jazz Journal International, in various CD liner records, and on the web.
