Among the U.K.’s many iconoclastic bands from the later ’80s and early ’90s, Silverfish highlighted vocalist Lesley Rankine, guitarist Andrew “Fuzz” Duprey, bassist Chris Powforth, and drummer Stuart Watson. Before signing up for the group, Rankine sang using the Grizzelders, a ’60s-design punk music group; Duprey, Powforth and Watson captured among the group’s shows and persuaded her to become listed on Silverfish. Rankine’s brutal, commanding vocals and aggressively feminist view — the chorus of “Big Poor Baby Pig Squeal” and “Sides Tits Lip area Power,” became a mantra of kinds for angry youthful females — foreshadowed and echoed the sentiments from the burgeoning riot grrrl motion, but musically the group was even more indebted to steel and industrial affects. Silverfish released many EPs in the past due ’80s that have been collected in to the 1990 compilation Cockeye; the next calendar year they released their debut record, Body fat Axl, and toured with Pigface. 1992 noticed the group earn much more widespread acclaim because of another full-length, Organ Enthusiast, and tour schedules helping the like-minded 7 Calendar year Bitch. Immediately after, nevertheless, Silverfish disbanded; Rankine continued to collaborate with Tag Walk as Ruby.
