Supergroups made up of technically “underground” rock music artists don’t come any nearer to the top of mainstream identification than Shrinebuilder — a task assembled by vocalist/guitarist Scott “Wino” Weinrich (the Obsessed, Saint Vitus, Heart Caravan, the Hidden Hands, among others), vocalist/guitarist Scott Kelly of Neurosis (also vocals, electric guitar), bassist/vocalist Al Cisneros, of Rest and Om, and Melvins drummer Dale Crover! That is right, “!”. Using their eponymous 2009 LP, the quartet commingled sonic components drawn from all their distributed experience in rock, doom, post-metal, and beyond, forging everything into five epic compositions of monolithic scope and unfathomable fat. Shrinebuilder after that embarked on the select variety of concert schedules, and, if their press is usually to be believed, plan to cooperation on more songs in the foreseeable future.
