An excellent middle-register trumpeter whose design seemed to virtually define “cool jazz,” Shorty Rogers was in fact even more significant for his arranging, both in jazz and in the film studios. After attaining early knowledge with Will Bradley and Crimson Norvo and portion in the armed forces, Rogers increased to popularity as an associate of Woody Herman’s Initial and Second Herds (1945-1946 and 1947-1949), and in some way he were able to provide some swing towards the Stan Kenton Improvements Orchestra (1950-1951), obviously enjoying composing for the stratospheric plane tickets of Maynard Ferguson. From then on association went its program, Rogers resolved in LA where he led his Giants (which ranged from a quintet to some nonet along with a big music group) on some rewarding West Coastline jazz-styled recordings and had written for the studios, assisting greatly to create jazz in to the films; his ratings for The Crazy One and THE PERSON With the Fantastic Arm are especially unforgettable. After 1962, Rogers trapped almost specifically to composing for tv and films, however in 1982 he started a return in jazz. Rogers reorganized and going the Lighthouse All-Stars and, although his personal playing had not been quite as solid as previously, he continued to be a welcome existence both in night clubs and recordings.
