An excellent ballad singer along with a talented pianist, Shirley Horn defer potential achievement until finally learning to be a main attraction during her fifties. She researched piano from age four. After going to Howard College or university, Horn come up with her 1st trio in 1954, and was prompted in the first ’60s by Kilometers Davis and Quincy Jones. She documented three albums during 1963-1965 for Mercury and ABC/Paramount, but thought we would hang in there Washington, D.C., and increase a family rather than pursuing her profession. In the first ’80s, she started documenting for SteepleChase, but Shirley Horn actually got her discovery in 1987 when she began making information for Verve, a link that continuing on information like 1998’s I RECALL Kilometers and 2001’s You’re My Thrill. In 2001 Horn’s wellness begun to fail (she acquired her left feet amputated because of diabetes) even though it affected her piano playing, she continuing to execute sporadically and documented one final record for Verve, 2003’s Might the Music Hardly ever End. Horn passed on on Oct 20, 2005, because of problems from diabetes.

1 Diabetes claimed much of her leg and she was unable to play the piano however she continued singing from a wheelchair.
2 She confined her performances to the Washington and Baltimore areas in order to avoid being on the road and also to be at home with her daughter.
