Shimmer Kids Underpop Association

This group’s six core members — guitarist, main singer/songwriter, and producer Josh Babcock; bassist Adam Dobrer; theremin participant Lorelei David; pianist Dave Isbister; saxophonist Dave Dunstan; and drummer Mike Evans — had been native Californians, the majority of whom fulfilled each other if they had been attending classes in the University or college of California at Santa Cruz. They ultimately formed Shimmer Children Underpop Association in 1996 (Evans became a member of in 1997) after Babcock and Dobrer relocated to the Potrero Hill portion of SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA, CA. Over another couple of years, when the group performed live these were followed by various movies loops and additional visible stimulus, including plaything props; in addition they added two extra players: backup vocalist, melodica participant, and percussionist Robin Wageman and trumpeter Justin Walsh. The group offered homemade cassette tapes they’d documented in Babcock’s bedroom with an eight-track recorder. In 2000, they released their first full-length Compact disc, Bury My Center at Makeout Stage. The recording was instantly embraced by followers from the Elephant 6 label’s roster, specifically fans of rings just like the Essex Green as well as the Olivia Tremor Control, aswell as from the psych-pop contingent concentrating on more-experimental acoustic guitar freakouts. The Shimmer Children’ self-released Bury My Center at Makeout Stage was stated in a restricted pressing of 500 copies for his or her personal Underpop label. These copies had been later on distributed through the indie distributor Parasol, which offered every copy in just a matter of weeks. In 2002, they authorized with Parasol’s in-house Hidden Plan imprint and released Organic Riot.
