Digital music producer and drummer Zachary Shigeto Saginaw, aka Shigeto, was subjected to jazz and R&B all the way through his father’s record collection. While still a young child surviving in Ann Arbor, Michigan, he found the drums and finally integrated himself in the Detroit region music scene. Many years afterwards, after attending NY City’s New College and surviving in London, Britain, he started focusing on digital music. Located in Brooklyn, he associated with the Ghostly International-affiliated Moodgadget label and released EPs using a Setting Sun, so that as Shigeto and Frank Omura. His initial record as Shigeto, nevertheless, premiered on Ghostly — a label that got motivated him since its early-2000s inception. BACK TO WHERE IT STARTED, a shiny and knotty cross-section of IDM, ambient techno, left-field hip-hop, and post-dubstep, premiered in November 2010. It had been around this period that Saginaw became a member of College of Seven Bells on tour as the band’s drummer. Saginaw’s productions became significantly melodic, elegant, and jazz-inflected on his extra Ghostly produces, including 2012’s Lineage and the next year’s No Better Period Than Right now. In 2015, Shigeto collaborated with jazz trumpeter Dave Douglas around the electro-acoustic recording High Risk, made an appearance on Heathered Pearls’ Body Organic, and released his personal Intermission, a moderate six-track EP.
