Shep Ginandes

Shep Ginandes was a Harvard-educated doctor located in Boston who also collected and sang folk tunes in his free time. A multi-lingual vocalist — his repertory included tracks in Welsh, French, Spanish, German, Yiddish, and Russian — he was also a global traveler, both by himself and throughout his are a U.S. Military doctor through the early to middle-’50s. Ginandes was highlighted on the brackets of albums in the Elektra Information label during this time period, and in addition released an record in the Pathways of Audio label through the ’60s. He could not be considered a home name in the folk globe today, but Ginandes was a significant performing body in the Boston region, and was a primary inspiration — aswell as offering some know-how — for Tom Lehrer when the last mentioned made a decision to try creating his very own recordings. And he supplied Dave Truck Ronk, believe it or not, using the tune “Willie the Weeper.” As Dr. Shepard Ginandes, MD, he resumed his medical profession full-time following the early ’60s, and apparently had his very own school by the ’70s.
