Today’s sensibility continues to be put into the Jewish music custom by Seattle-based multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, and songwriter Shawn Weaver. As the first choice of Shawn’s Kugel, a music group he created with keyboardist/accordion participant Steve Grain, bassist Spencer Hoveskeland, and drummer/percussionist Will Dowd in 1996, Weaver offers effectively fused klezmer music with pop and rock and roll influences. Weaver 1st attracted interest as an associate from the irreverent klezmer/Jewish folk music group the Mazletones. The group, which launched such ditties as “Seattle, Seattle” and “Borscht Rider in the Sky,” performed its last show, in the Temple Beth Am’s Kleg Event in Seattle, on November 8, 1998. Weaver became a member of along with his wife, Wendy Marcus, a previous person in the Mazletones, on violin and vocals, and their kids to record Many Precious of Times in 2000.
