With her earthy, bluesy voice and fresh, unbridled method of songwriting, Shannon McNally carries the fantastic blues and blues-rock tradition to new generations of fans who already appreciate bands just like the North Mississippi All Stars, Warren Haynes, among others who’ve gained footholds within the jam band and blues festival circuit — and turning jam band fans into blues fans can not be a poor thing. McNally offers guested on albums by John Hiatt, Dr. John, Neal Casal, Jason Crosby, Dave Alvin, Charlie Sexton, among others from the bluesy and origins rock ilk. Highly influenced from the folk-blues in her parents’ record collection as she was developing up on Very long Island, McNally offers used her music method beyond that, to add soul-jazz and electrical blues-rock. She started singing songs aware of her guitar-playing dad and dug deep in to the well of his record collection, hearing recordings by Bob Dylan, Leadbelly, Nina Simone, the Music group, Emmylou Harris, and PJ Harvey. She majored in anthropology in university and started her performing profession there with little coffeehouses around Very long Island, and in addition spent period busking in Paris during her university years.
