Shadow Ring

Led by Graham Lambkin, avant-rock minimalists the Darkness Ring built a strange, lo-fi sound constructed on folk, experimental noise (from both guitar and electronics), tape loops, and spoken-word poetry. Produced in Cheriton, Kent, Britain, the Darkness Ring initially contains guitarist Lambkin and percussionist Daren Harris, with periodic supporting personnel. Developing their own Dry out Leaf label, the group produced its LP debut with 1993’s Town Lights, and have scored U.S. distribution using the Siltbreeze label for the 1994 follow-up, Place the Music in Its Coffin. It had been accompanied by a 1995 American tour with many Siltbreeze labelmates, including Harry Pussy. Full-time consumer electronics manipulator Tim Goss became a member of the Darkness Band for 1996’s Polish Function Echoes, on the brand new Zealand-based Corpus Hermeticum imprint. Lambkin eventually caused Harry Pussy drummer/vocalist Adris Hoyos in the noise-rock task Transmitting over 1996-97, but continued to be active using the Darkness Ring, which following issued STORE I.D. on Siltbreeze in 1997. The dual LP Lighthouse implemented on Swill Radio in 1999, offering efforts from Karla Borecky and Scott Foust of Idea Fireplace Firm, while also sketching evaluations to Captain Beefheart. Lambkin, Borecky, and Foust also produced the side task Tart, which continued to concern an album known as Radio Orange; Lambkin also released the solo recording Poem. The Darkness Ring came back in 2001 having a limited-edition LP on Swill Radio entitled Lindus.
