Sebastian Weigle

Most widely known for his shows from the operas of Richard Wagner in Bayreuth and Frankfurt, Sebastian Weigle is a versatile conductor of operatic, choral, and orchestral music. He researched horn, piano, and performing in the Hanns Eisler SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL for Music in Berlin, and in 1982 performed first horn using the Berlin Staatskapelle. He led both his hand-picked Berlin Chamber Choir and the brand new Berlin Chamber Orchestra, and from 1993, he was the main conductor from the Brandenburg Youngsters Orchestra. He carried out at many opera homes through the 1990s and 2000s, like the Vienna Volksoper, the Vienna Condition Opera, the Cincinnati Opera, the Metropolitan Opera in NY, and Opera Australia in Sydney. In 2004 he was called principal conductor from the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, a post he kept before becoming the overall music director from the Frankfurt Opera in 2008. His repertoire is targeted on Wagner, like the early operas, Die Feen, Das Liebesverbot, and Rienzi, though he in addition has carried out Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, Beethoven’s Fidelio, Johann Strauss’ Die Fledermaus, Humperdinck’s Königskinder, Richard Strauss’ Arabella, and Korngold’s Die tote Stadt. The majority of Weigle’s recordings show up on the Oehms Classics label.
