Scorn

Carefully allied with post-industrial dub terrorists such as for example Expenses Laswell, Techno Pet, James Plotkin, Robert Musso, and Anton Fier, Birmingham-based artist Mick Harris is something of a report in extremes. A drummer with mentioned death metal clothing Napalm Death with the group’s past due-’80s/early-’90s heyday, Harris started tinkering with monochrome ambient and dub designs toward the tail-end of his association with this group. Releasing materials through Earache as Scorn (his ambient dub aegis) and through Sentrax as Lull, furthermore to various other sporadic tasks, his genre-spanning actions have done very much to jar the thoughts, targets, and record series of viewers previously aggressively against the designs. Up to now, Scorn and Lull, alongside John Zorn’s experimental jazz-dubcore clothing Pain Killer, possess remained Harris’ principal ongoing tasks, although one-off collaborations with famous brands Adam Plotkin, Nicholas Bullen, Costs Laswell, and Martyn Bates are normal. Harris produced Scorn in 1991 in cooperation with bassist Nick Bullen, incorporating components of ambient, commercial, dub, rock and roll, and hip-hop. The group (though pared back again to just Harris pursuing Evanescence) provides released several more and more well-received full-length recordings, like the remix LP Ellipsis, which features outbound reworkings by famous brands Coil, Autechre, Laswell, and Germ. Harris’ single are Lull targets darker, even more “isolationist” ambient soundscapes, a few of which were reissued domestically by Laswell’s now-defunct Subharmonic imprint.
