Following the demise of Savage Republic, guitarist Bruce Licher formed Scenic, which creates similar moody (and occasionally doomy) guitar-dominated instrumentals with strong Middle-Eastern influences. Unlike Savage Republic, nevertheless, Scenic — a trio which also contains Brock Wirtz on drums and Wayne Brenner, previously of Shiva Burlesque, on bass — takes on entirely instrumental materials. Their debut recording, Event at Cima (1995), required Savage Republic’s post-punk raga-rock into gentler, even more melodic place.
