Samuel Mareschall

When Mareschall moved to Basle in 1576-77(?), which may be the initial information attained about him, he inserted the school. Almost instantly he became an organist at Basle Cathedral, a teacher of music on the school, and he trained at both Gymnasium as well as the Collegium Alumnorum. Though he previously other obligations to product his income, Mareschall managed all positions until his loss of life. “Der gantz Psalter” of 1606, and “Psalmen Davids” had been his most mentioned works. The previous were vocal items ready for four voices as the second option was a friend set of the entire Psalms. It had been stated by Mareschall that he was the first ever to place the melodies from the psalter in the best tone of voice, but he had not been alert to the previus configurations by Goudimel and Osiander. Between 1638-40 Mareschall also put together organ tablatures based on the styles of his personal “Der gantz Psalter.” The majority of his music had not been terribly innovative with exceptions for harmonic and rhythmic experimentation. Like a musicographer, Mareschall’s 1st function, “Porta musices,” was a didactic manual including explanations of specialized musical elements and elaborations on settings and singing.
