Sam Riney

A saxophonist noted for his light, sensual modern jazz audio, Sam Riney was perhaps better called an accompanist than being a bandleader. Among his first performances on record was the 1983 LP Variations, headlined by previous Doorways guitarist Robby Krieger, and through the remainder from the 10 years he set up himself as an excellent fusion sideman, frequently together with vocalist Tag Winkler. Riney’s debut time being a head was the 1988 Spindletop label discharge Lay It at risk, followed afterwards that same season by FINALLY; he continued to be a prolific performer, issuing Using Fireplace in 1990, but after 1991’s Speak to Me didn’t lead another program ahead of Dark Hero in 1996. Riney continued to be active being a sideman in to the 21st hundred years, showing up on such albums as 2007’s IT HAD BEEN Only a Desire from the Rhonda Giannelli Quartet.
