Sam Pilafian

A virtuoso on tuba, Sam Pilafian was raised in Miami. He is a student from the device his lifetime, getting fellowships at Dartmouth and Tanglewood. In 1971, he received the interest of Leonard Bernstein and performed in the globe leading of Bernstein’s “Mass” at Kennedy Middle in Washington. Pilafian can be a founding person in the Empire Brass Quintet as well as the huge brass ensemble Summit Brass. Furthermore, he has documented and performed with Red Floyd, the Boston Symphony, Bernadette Peters as well as the Duke Ellington Orchestra. In 1991, Pilafian teamed up with acoustic guitarist Frank Vignola, creating the duo Travelin’ Light. Pilafian released Meltdown in 1998 with Scott Zimmer on alto and soprano saxophones carrying out the music of Ravel, Bartok, Thelonious Monk, Ornette Coleman and Captain Beefheart.
