Following many years of playing in rings of most kinds, Sam Lowry proceeded to go solo being a singer/songwriter with an adventurous understand of instrumentation. In 1999 he create camp in Bloomington, IN, and started focusing on his debut record, Down Songs Through the Exile Collection (2000). The record, released by Higher Stage, showcased his melancholy lyrics and brooding tone of voice, backed by his innovative usage of drum coding and electric guitar playing. He came back in 2002 with another record for Higher Stage, Between your Lotus as well as the Han. It notably highlighted his backing music group, the Situation: Sarah Quick (violin), Frank Hall (dual bass), and Jonathan Richardson (drums).
