Forged through the same roaring hearth as U.K. folk luminaries like Martin Carthy, Nic Jones, as well as the Watersons, London-born and bred vocalist, visual musician, promoter, educator, and success skills trainer Sam Lee dropped beneath the spell of traditional folk music while completing a four-year apprenticeship in his early twenties beneath the tutelage of renowned Scottish archivist/balladeer Stanley Robertson. Sourcing materials from British, Gypsy, Irish, and Scottish traveller neighborhoods, Lee’s debut record, Ground of ITS, premiered in 2012. Made by Gerry Diver and offering mixes from Nick Drake engineer John Timber, the record was nominated for your year’s esteemed Mercury Award.
