Sam Lay

Sam Place was created March 20, 1935, in Birmingham, Alabama, and began his profession like a drummer in Cleveland in 1954, dealing with the Moon Puppy Combo. In 1957 he became a member of the initial Thunderbirds and remained with that group until 1959, when he remaining for Chicago to utilize the legendary Small Walter. Place began to use Howlin’ Wolf in 1960 and spent another six years with this group. He and bassist Jerome Arnold had been hired from Wolf’s music group by Paul Butterfield in 1966 and became area of the Paul Butterfield Blues Music group, recording that traditional first album. Lay down toured with Butterfield until past due calendar year when he unintentionally shot himself. Place supported Bob Dylan on the historical 1965 Newport Folk Event, when Dylan first launched electric rock towards the folk masses. He continued to record with Dylan on Highway 61 Revisited. He could be noticed on a lot more than 40 traditional Chess blues recordings, and his popular double-shuffle may be the envy of each would-be blues drummer. In 1969, Place performed drums for the Muddy Waters’ Fathers and Sons recording, now a vintage. He was also the initial drummer for the Wayne Cotton Blues Music group. Later on in 1969, he also caused the Siegel-Schwall Music group. He continued to create the Sam Place Blues Revival Music group, which has included many players over time including Jimmy Rogers, George “Crazy Kid” Butler, Eddie Taylor, while others. Place was inducted in to the Blues Hall of Popularity in 1992 and received a nomination for any W.C. Handy honor. He created the Sam Place Blues Music group and documented on Appaloosa Information (Shuffle Expert, Sam Place Live) and on Alligator using the Siegel-Schwall Music group, with whom he frequently plays. 1996’s Rock Blues was implemented four years afterwards by Hurry Hour Blues. Go on Beale Street implemented in fall 2000.
