The musical traditions of Cambodia have already been brought to america by ethnomusicologist and quadruple-reed shawm player Sam-Ang Sam. An associate from the Pin Peat Outfit from 1988 to 1992, Sam offers continuing to explore traditional Khmer dance music using the Sam-Ang Sam Outfit. Sam trained around the shawm, an oboe-like device, in his homeland before emigrating to america in the past due-1970s. The receiver of a MacArthur fellowship, Sam presently works together with ethnomusicologist and Javanese courtroom gamelan musician Karl Signell and Chad McDaniels on webpages and in-depth CD-ROM presentations of Cambodian overall performance arts.
