b. 1 Might 1940, Kavala, Greece. Pianist, broadcaster, promoter, novelist and journalist Papadimitriou continues to be among the shifting pushes behind the still-small Greek jazz picture. His radio programs and content in the newspaper TZAZ helped to construct an informed market for jazz at its most experimental. Papadimitriou’s duo with Floros Floridis (saxophone, clarinet) was Greece’s initial free group. However, ‘musical and personal distinctions’ managed to get a short-lived one. Although Papadimitriou regularly works with various other Greek music artists, his discography is made up almost completely of single piano recordings. Especially stunning is his make use of – alternately simple and dramatic – from the piano’s interior: plucking, strumming and impressive the strings from the instrument.
