Biography

The breadth of clarinetist Sabine Meyer’s repertoire is matched by her dedication to collaborations with other, equally skilled music artists. She received her 1st music lessons from her dad, clarinetist Karl Meyer, and went on to review with Otto Hermann in Stuttgart and Hans Deinzer in Hannover. She was 16 when she produced her professional debut. She became a member of Munich’s Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra for a while, after that in 1982, Herbert von Karajan produced something of a global mix by appointing her as single clarinetist for the Berlin Philharmonic, heading contrary to the orchestra’s custom of not really admitting female music artists. However, she just remained using the orchestra for any year, because the demand grew on her behalf to execute as soloist with additional orchestras and chamber ensembles.
