Rufus Reid

A prolific bassist who’s seemingly constantly in the saving studio room, Rufus Reid’s name appears on countless very difficult bop, bebop, golf swing, and also some pop classes. His restrained however emphatic and pungent firmness, period, harmonic sensibility, and discernible, if understated, golf swing are pleasant on any program. Trumpet was Reid’s 1st like, but he turned to bass within the Air flow Force. He used Friend Montgomery in Sacramento, CA, after that analyzed music in Seattle and Chicago in the past due ’60s and early ’70s. Reid worked well in Chicago with Sonny Stitt, Wayne Moody, Milt Jackson, Curtis Fuller, and Dizzy Gillespie, and documented with Kenny Dorham, Dexter Gordon, Lee Konitz, and Howard McGhee in 1970. He toured internationally many times using the Bobby Hutcherson-Harold Property quintet, Freddie Hubbard, Nancy Wilson, Eddie Harris, and Gordon with the ’70s. Reid relocated to NY in 1976, playing and documenting having a quartet co-led by Thad Jones and Mel Lewis, and trained at William Patterson University in Wayne, NJ, beginning in 1979. He documented with Konitz, Ricky Ford, Jack port DeJohnette’s Special Release with Kenny Burrell, having a quintet co-led by Frank Wess and Artwork Farmer, and in duos with Kenny Burrell and Harold Danko within the ’80s. Reid also do sessions with Artwork Farmer and Jimmy Heath. He offers co-led an organization with drummer Akira Tana because the past due ’80s that’s called TanaReid. Like a innovator, Rufus Reid offers cut units for Theresa, Sunnyside, and Concord.
