Ruby

Ruby was the alias of vocalist Lesley Rankine, previously the frontwoman of Scottish noise-provocateurs Silverfish. After departing the group in the wake of their 1993 LP Fuckin’ Drivin’ or What, Rankine relocated from London to Seattle to collaborate with manufacturer Tag Walk, with whom she’d previously done materials for the commercial collective Pigface. Dubbing the task Ruby — a name distributed by both of their maternal grandmothers — Rankine and Walk developed a sonic backdrop nearer to electronica compared to the abrasive rock and roll from the singer’s past function, using the acclaimed LP Sodium Peter showing up in 1995. The remix EP Stroking the entire Length adopted a year later on. Rankine returned towards the outskirts of Scotland to create her follow-up record, released in 2001. The recording, Short Staffed In the Gene Pool noticed Ruby on a fresh British label, Wichita Recordings and on Thirsty Hearing in america.
