Ruby Hughes

Ruby Hughes is a Welsh soprano, as well as the little girl of ceramicist Elizabeth Fritsch. Initially a cello pupil, Hughes went to London’s Guildhall College of Music, and after graduation, examined on the Hochschule für Musik und Movie theater in Munich, where she turned to tone of voice and gained her diploma in concert and melody categories. Winner from the Royal Philharmonic Society’s Susan Chilcott Prize and a Samling scholarship or grant, Hughes also received a complete scholarship or grant that allowed her to review with Lillian Watson on the Royal University of Music in London, where she graduated in ’09 2009. She became a BBC New Era Musician and a award winner at this year’s 2009 London Handel Performing Competition. Hughes provides sung using the British National Opera, the first Opera Firm, the Garsington Opera, the Opera Group, Music Theater Wales, as well as the Scottish Opera. Being a concert musician, she’s performed with conductors Harry Christophers, Laurence Cummings, Christian Curnyn, Philippe Herreweghe, Juanjo Mena, Marc Minkowski, Hervé Niquet, Gianandrea Noseda, Thomas Søndergård, John Storgårds, and Takuo Yuasa, amongst others. Hughes provides made an appearance with such ensembles as Akademie für Alte Musik, Berlin, Les Arts Florissants, the Britten Sinfonia, Le Concert Spirituel, the King’s Consort, the London Mozart Players, the Manchester Camerata, the Orchestra of age Enlightenment, the Philharmonia Orchestra, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra, the Ulster Orchestra, as well as the Zurich Chamber Orchestra. In recital, Hughes provides sung with pianists Julius Drake and Joseph Middleton.
