Rubén González was among the last of Cuba’s great Afro-Cuban piano players. Although he previously played and documented with the music group led by Enrique Jorrín, the originator from the cha-cha, for 25 % of a hundred years, he previously retired from music with the middle-’80s. Things begun to transformation when González documented using the Afro-Cuban All Superstars in 1996. The record, A Toda Cuba Le Gusta, released the next calendar year, helped to inspire a global fascination for Afro-Cuban music and brought González towards the interest of a worldwide audience. His functionality over the Ry Cooder-produced record Buena Vista Public Club produced him a global phenomenon. Putting your signature on a agreement with Cooder’s label, Globe Circuit, González released his debut single record, Presenting…Ruben Gonzalez, at age 78. Displaying great promise, being a pianist, from an early on age group, González graduated in the Cienfuegos Conservatoire in 1934. Although he briefly went to medical school, expecting to become doctor, the lure of music demonstrated unsurmountable. Leaving college, González shifted to Havana to become full-time musician in 1941. After documenting with important multi-instrumentalist Arsenio Rodriguez, González became a member of Orquestra de los Hermanos, an organization offering Cuban percussionist Mongo Santamaria. Pursuing a protracted period in Panama and Argentina, where he caused tango music artists, he came back to Havana and used some cabaret rings. In the first ’60s, González became a member of Enrique Jorrín’s music group, remaining using the group until Jorrín’s loss of life. Although he assumed management of the music group, González was pressured, by arthritis, to announce his pension. He taken care of a low-key existence until 1996. During his come back, however, González liked the popularity that was lengthy overdue; he released two albums in the U.S, including 1997’s Introducing… and 2000’s Chanchullo. The octogenarian pianist passed away in Dec of 2003 in his house of Havana, Cuba.
